A SECTION of the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road in Insuza, Umguza District, has been opened for traffic for motorists traveling on the busy highway.

The section of the road that was opened is under rehabilitation by Syvern Construction.

Eight contractors were awarded contracts to upgrade the more than 440 kilometre highway, a critical corridor that links the country with Zambia, Namibia and Botswana.

Matabeleland North provincial roads engineer Xolani Ncube said the eight contractors are still within the 10-month timeline to complete the road rehabilitation.

“Initially, five contractors had been awarded contracts and Government added another three contractors. Three of the contractors are doing stabilisation work on their respective five kilometre stretches and in the next two weeks, we should also be opening sections of the road to traffic,” said Engineer Ncube

He said the five kilometres that was opened will allow for vehicles to harden the surface before road markings can be done.
