MINISTER of Energy and Power Development July Moyo has commissioned a US$200 000 Mabobolo Electrification Project in Binga District.
Four institutions – Mabobolo Primary School, a local clinic and business centre as well as Mabobolo Secondary School – benefited from the project that started on 1 July and ended on 5 November 2024 at a cost of US$201 116.
The project was spearheaded by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
“The Mabobolo project marks a new chapter in our journey towards a more connected and prosperous future and Government’s commitment to leveraging technology for socio-economic development of our rural communities.
“By expanding access to electricity and energy in general, we are empowering our communities to participate in the digital economy, fostering economic growth and improving the overall quality of life of our people,” said Minister Moyo.
Minister Moyo said electricity and energy generation is a key driver to industrialisation, economic development improved conditions of people living in rural areas.
He said over the years, electricity was mainly available in urban areas, large-scale commercial farms and mining companies, while the majority of the rural population was neglected.
“Rural communities lagged behind in any meaningful initiatives despite having the potential and zeal to work productively for themselves,” said the Minister.
The event was attended by Government officials from various parastatals, leadership of the Reformed Church in Zimbabwe, which runs Mabobolo primary and secondary schools, several chiefs from Binga District, school children, parents and villagers.
