ZIMDANCEHALL star Madedido, says local artists are now being given fair fees for their performances and has dismissed concerns that they are always handed raw deals compared to their foreign counterparts.
The chanter feels local musicians are being rewarded accordingly for their good work.
He encouraged them to take advantage of platforms such as TikTok to expand their audiences while staying true to their Zimbabwean identity.
Speaking to the Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub, Madedido dismissed the perception that Zimbabwean artists are always paid less than their foreign counterparts.
He said many local musicians are now receiving competitive performance fees, reflecting the growth of Zimbabwe’s music industry. The artist described TikTok as one of the most powerful tools for music promotion, saying viral trends on the platform have become more effective than conventional marketing methods.
“TikTok is now one of the best ways to promote music. When people create trends using your song, it spreads much faster than when artists try to promote it on their own,” he said.
Madedido also believes record labels are no longer as important as they once were, as musicians can now record, release and distribute their music independently through digital platforms.
The Zimdancehall star has continued to expand his presence beyond Zimbabwe through collaborations with regional artists.
He recently featured on South African artist Leemcrazy’s hit song “Jaiva” and also collaborated with Zambian musician K Adams on the track “Ghetto Boi.”
Mededido revealed that he is set to release another collaboration with a Tanzanian artist in the near future. He encouraged Zimbabwean musicians to preserve their cultural identity by singing in Shona when collaborating with international artists.
“Maartist ngaaimbe neShona pavanoita ma collaborations,” said Madedido.
