IN the week that Scottland will celebrate winning their first Castle Lager Premiership, FIFA boss Gianni Infantino has set the celebrations into motion.
The Mabvuku side won the championship, with two games to play in the championship race, after establishing a seven-point lead over the chasing pack.
Scottland became the first club to win the league championship, in their first season in the top-flight league, in 41 years.
The Mabvuku side are set to receive their trophy, and party, at Ascot on Saturday.
They are also the first to do so since the top-flight league evolved from being the Super League to the Premier League in 1993.
Black Rhinos were the last team to achieve a similar feat in 1984.
In a letter addressed to ZIFA president Nqobile Magwizi, Infantino said Scottland were rewarded for the efforts they put into their cause throughout the season.
“By means of this letter, I am pleased to congratulate the new champions of Zimbabwe, Scottland FC.
“Their constant efforts and results throughout the season have paid off, resulting in this important title.
“Congratulations to each and every member of the team and of the club for this great achievement.”
Scottland, who won the Northern Region Division One league title last year, have been champions in each of the two seasons they have played competitive football.
