PRODUCER and wheelspinner Young DLC, whose real name is Darlington Chikwewo, is flying the Zimbabwean flag high.

He has become an African music production powerhouse, celebrated for his versatile, genre-bending African influenced electronic music.

With nearly a decade of experience, he has become one of the most sought-after producers and collaborators across Africa, while also making waves as a DJ.

Born in Harare, Young DLC’s journey began with a breakthrough on Coke Studio South Africa (2016), where he produced “Run Away” for Aewon Wolf and Jade McDonald.

He went on to serve as a two-time resident producer on Coke Studio Africa (2017 and 2019), creating music with some of the continent’s biggest stars, including Patoranking, Olamide, AKA, Yemi Alade, Kiff No Beat, Rayvanny, Kaligraph Jones, Nasty C, Runtown, Mr Bow, Rophnan, Eddy Kenzo, and many more.

His chart-topping catalogue includes “I Will Not Forget” (2025) with Shaza — a viral hit that peaked at number one on Heart FM (Cape Town).

“Nge Thanda Wena,” done in collaboration with DJ Maphorisa and Sha Sha is surpassing eight million streams on YouTube without an official video.

“Be My Girl” (2016), done in collaboration with Sylent Nqo, spent 15 weeks at the Algoa FM charts, peaking at number five.

He collaborated with Bryan K (2022 EP) and TiGonzi (Mufaro).

He also forms half of the electronic duo Matta Motto with Tristan Coetzee, releasing projects with Gigi Lamayne and Praiz (Nigeria).

He produced the opening sequence for BET Africa’s ISONO (2020), contributed to Disney’s Kizazi Moto: Generation of Fire (2023) and his productions featured in CNN’s Burna Boy documentary.

His work also extends to major campaigns for brands like Oros, Google, Stanbic, KFC, and Nando’s. Signed to Sony Publishing South Africa in 2017, he later partnered with Next Music for independent releases.

With an ear for futuristic sounds and a commitment tto pushing African music globally, Young DLC continues to bridge cultures, shape the sound of the continent, and inspire the next generation of producers, DJs and artists.

Young DLC said his music passion was inspired by his father.

“My journey into music production began with my father Lazerous Chikwewo who owned a recording studio.

“His passion for music inspired me to explore this field from an early age. He used to own VOJ Studios where most gospel artists used to record in the early 2000s.

“That’s where the TBA produced Chigutiro compilation was recorded. While I have drawn inspiration from numerous individuals for various reasons throughout my life, the underlying motivation for me has always been the desire to connect with people and make my family proud,” said Young DLC.

He said working with great names in the music industry has made him realise the power of a dedicated team.

“Collaborating with renowned artists has taught me that success hinges on the combination of a dedicated team, quality music, and strategic investment.”  “I also believe that sometimes, a bit of luck can make a significant difference.

“My ultimate dream is to become an internationally recognised DJ and producer.

“At the moment, I am focused on releasing my own music and promoting it across relevant platforms and scenes.

“I’m pleased to report that this endeavour has been quite successful thus far,” said Young DLC.
