IT’S likely to be the BIGGEST game which Shamva has hosted − a showdown between two ambitious clubs and owners which could have the biggest bearing on who emerges as champion this season.
Simba versus Scott − same initials and similar ambitions.
Number one versus number two − a top-of-the-table showdown with a golden touch, both in terms of the main source of the funding for both franchises and the status of this battle.
Wadzanai has hosted the giants − Dynamos, Highlanders and CAPS United since Simba Bhora arrived on the big stage of the Castle Lager Premiership.
But, Simba Bhora’s showdown against Scottland tomorrow is likely to be the biggest game, in terms of crowd attendance, since the hosts transformed themselves into a Premiership club.
Wadzanai was the fortress which Tonderai Ndiraya used to build his championship-winning campaign when he was still working for Simba Bhora.
It also used to be the home of the likes of Walter Musona, Tymon Machope, Mtokozisi Msebe and Vasili Kawe.
Now, they are all fighting in the Scottland corner and they are part of the sub-plots which have turned tomorrow’s showdown into a blood-and-thunder showdown.
Machope could win the Golden Boot, after hitting a purple patch in recent weeks, but he knows that the most important mission is for the Scotts to win the championship.
For that to happen, the Scotts have to win tomorrow because they are the team with no margin for error. If they lose, they will find themselves five points adrift of Simba and with the season staggering towards the end, the gap could be too big to close for the Mabvuku side.
For Joel Luphahla, this is a golden chance for his team to put their foot on the accelerator and give themselves breathing space and points in the bank to fall back on in the event of a stumble in their final games.
A loss for Simba Bhora tomorrow will not be that could be catastrophic, in terms of their dreams of retaining the championship, as they will only be a point adrift of the leaders.
The owners of the two clubs, Simba Ndoro and Scott Sakupwanya, have been close friends for some time now.
They share the same passion of not only winning the championship but creating franchises which will dominate the domestic football scene for a long time.
They both believe they are visionaries who will have a significant impact in the transformation of domestic football. For 90 minutes tomorrow, their friendship will be severely tested.
