AWARD-WINNING rapper Maskiri, songstress Pauline Gundidza and reggae artist Emmanuel “Manex” Motsi are set to headline Pauline’s EP launch set for July 19 at Sherwood Golf Club in Harare.
The ‘old dogs’ are set to rekindle their memories with their hit songs.
“This event aims to unite both legendary and emerging performers to celebrate the genre’s enduring impact on Zimbabwe’s music industry,” said Pauline.
“It will pay tribute to the golden era of urban grooves, a genre that once reigned supreme on the airwaves in the early 2000s.
“We are thrilled to witness these talented artists coming together to deliver an electrifying experience for their fans.”
The show promises to sweep audiences on a nostalgic journey through Zimbabwe’s vibrant urban music scene.
Urban grooves, distinguished by their fusion of traditional Zimbabwean sounds with contemporary urban influences, reshaped the country’s musical landscape, with artists from this movement continuing to leave a profound mark.
“Everything is set and fans are expecting to reignite their memory with the music that was once the young generation’s favourite during its prime days.
“The show will feature Mafriq, Tererai and Dino Mudondo. This is also my EP launch date so it’s a double celebration.
“I have successfully recovered from alcoholism and I am now campaigning against substance abuse.
“These challenges have made me stronger.”
She added:
“My EP, which is coming out on July 8, features seven songs, symbolising a rebirth as I step into the music industry as a solo artist.”
The EP is titled ‘Ndauya’ and it is meant to commemorate her remarkable 20-year journey in the music industry.
The EP includes a mix of genres − gospel, reggae, Afrofusion, Amapiano and dancehall − highlighting her unique sound, particularly her growing affinity for mbira music.
