YESTERDAY we torched a storm on social media, and related spaces, when we published our story about who is the hottest celebrity in Zimbabwe right now.
Our focus was on the male celebrities and we asked our five female reporters to pick their choices.
We received criticism from some of our readers while there were also others who praised us for celebrating our celebrities.
We are not the first publication to run such an article.
People Magazine actually runs an annual poll of its readers who vote for the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’.
Last year, the award was won by John Krasinski, the United States actor and filmmaker.
In the countdown to the main award, the magazine’s readers also vote for the ‘Sexiest Musician Alive’ and last year the award was won by Harry Styles.
Our female journalists picked Jah Prayzah, Tino Chinyani, Mudiwa Hood, Shaun Mundawarara and DJ Iroq as their hottest celebrities.
We knew it was going to provoke some strong reactions and some of our readers mischievously chose to link our cover story with the advert of a hotdog which anchored the page.
There were more comments about the hotdog advert than about the question we posed to our journalists which led them to come up with their choice of celebrities.
It must have broken all records of comments associated with an advert.
There were reservations among some of our readers as to why our journalists left out some favourites like Winky D, Freeman and Enzo Ishall, who they felt deserved to be part of the list.
Others felt none of the five celebrities deserved to be on that list.
We are certain that if we ask a different group of women to come up with their list they will probably choose a different set of celebrities.
