WICKNELL CHIVAYO WANTED BY POLICE? Cops hunt originators of viral post

B-Metro Reporter

THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has rubbished a fake Press statement doing the rounds on social media claiming that businessman Wicknell Munodaani Chivayo is wanted for questioning over alleged fraud.

In a strongly worded warning, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the so-called “ZRP press statement” — which carried the national police logo and even a forged signature of national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi — is completely bogus.

“Reference is made to a fake press statement that has gone viral on social media platforms. The press statement did not originate from the official ZRP communication channels,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
He said the public should dismiss the message as nothing but a cheap fabrication.

“Members of the public are therefore advised to disregard it as false and misleading. The ZRP is aware of individuals and groups responsible for circulating the fake press statement and appropriate investigations are underway,” he said.

The fake message, dated 1 November 2025, falsely claimed that “the Zimbabwe Republic Police is looking for Wicknell Munodaani Chivayo in connection with a fraud investigation and related criminal activities.” It even went as far as instructing him to report to Harare Central Police Station for questioning.
Comm Nyathi warned citizens not to fall for such misleading social media antics and to always verify official communication through trusted channels.

“The public is urged to rely only on information released through the official ZRP platforms and verified media sources,” he said
The fake post has since gone viral, sparking confusion and heated debate online. Police have launched investigations to track down the culprits behind the digital forgery.

As of Saturday, Wicknell Chivayo had not commented publicly on the matter.
