A TRANSPORTER from Whitehouse is on the run after allegedly duping a woman of US$245.
The money was part of her savings to build her house.
Tinashe Chinembiri is accused of promising to deliver top soil to the construction site belonging to Mary, popularly known as Chihera, in the same area.
Since February, the delivery has not been made yet he was paid.
Efforts to recover the money from Chinembiri have been fruitless, forcing Chihera to report the case at Marimba Police Station under RRB 6796038 for fraud.
Chinembiri said he worked as a truck driver for someone called Thompson Tanyanyiwa.
“I was Thompson’s truck driver, he gave me that money as my salary for two months.
“I quit the job and, when I left, he refused to carry out the job for Mary because I had left his truck to find another job.
“He is the owner of the truck.
“I explained everything to her, but she would not understand.”
Chinembiri later changed the version of his statement and said he intended to repay the money.
“Musadaro, handiti ndati ndobhadhara wani”.
Chihera, however, is adamant.
She says Chinembiri has blocked her calls and has failed to give him satisfactory answers.
“He promises to deliver and then does nothing. I paid him US$250 for the purchase of soil and transportation on February 2, and that was it.
“I have sent many people to talk to him, he kept promising to pay back the next day.
“To date, I have neither been refunded nor received the delivery.
“I reported to the police and he said he would go there but he never did.
“I went to Kuwadzana to meet his father and brothers, they phoned him to come for talks or give me a refund, but he did not show.”
Chihera added:
“He promised to do the work, but nothing has happened. I received calls from two different people saying they are facing the same problem.
“He blocked me so I have to use other people’s phones to contact him and sometimes he blocks them too.
“The police said the matter appears more civil so they advised us to phone him to come to the station.”
