A 38-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo woman appeared in court for allegedly stabbing her husband three times on the face with an empty bottle following a dispute over US$1.
Veronica Kwaramba, of Cowdray Park, appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Jeconia Prince Ncube, facing a charge of physical abuse.
She was remanded out of custody to January 27, pending the production of a medical report.
In a rare plea for leniency, the complainant — her husband Timothy Munonji — asked the court to release his wife, citing the welfare of their four-year-old child, who needs her mother.
Prosecuting, Mr Tafara Dzimbanhete told the court that the incident occurred on January 20 at around 10AM.
“On the day in question, the complainant asked the accused to give him his US$1 but she refused,” said Mr Dzimbanhete.
The court heard that the disagreement quickly escalated into a heated argument during which Kwaramba allegedly picked up a broken empty bottle and stabbed Munonji three times on the face.
Following the assault, a police report was filed leading to Kwaramba’s arrest.
Munonji was referred to hospital for medical examination and treatment.
Cases of domestic violence remain a concern countrywide, with authorities and civic groups continuously urging couples to resolve disputes peacefully and seek mediation before conflicts turn violent.
