A murder suspect was found dead at a lodge in Chiredzi on Saturday in, yet another case of murder-suicide linked to a love relationship gone bad.
As if to suggest premeditation, 30-year-old Godknows Muleya left a long Facebook post asking for forgiveness after murdering his ex-wife and Midlands State University student, Lisedi Nkomo, who was aged 25 and from Plumtree.
The murder occurred at a boarding house in the Senga suburb of Gweru on Thursday and Muleya then escaped arrest, triggering a manhunt which ended on Saturday when he was found dead in Chiredzi, some 320km away.
Muleya, who is from Bulawayo, is suspected of having shot himself in the head, but it could not be immediately established if he used the same gun he used in the murder of Lisedi.
Lisedi, who was a Psychology Honours Degree Level 4.1 student, is survived by a minor child.
Police yesterday confirmed Muleya’s death in a social media post.
“In Reference is made to the ZRP message on X regarding a case of murder in which Lisedi Nkomo (25) died at a boarding house in Senga, Gweru on 08/10/2026 after allegedly being shot by her ex-husband, Godknows Muleya (30).
“The ZRP confirms the discovery of the body of Godknows Muleya at a guest lodge in Chiredzi on 10 /10/ 2026. Godknows Muleya was found with a gunshot wound on the forehead.
“A pistol loaded with a magazine of three rounds and a spent cartridge were recovered at the scene. Investigations are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding his death,” read the ZRP post.
Meanwhile, in a rambling Facebook post, Muleya blamed problems in their love relationship to family tensions and misunderstandings.
“I am writing this message not to cause more pain or to destroy anyone’s reputation, but to speak from my heart, express my sorrow, and bring some form of closure to a chapter of my life that has meant so much to me.
“Lesedi, I loved you sincerely, and I will always cherish the memories we shared. I will never regret the fact that we have a son together, because Jordan will always be a blessing in my life,” he wrote.
He even revealed that when he started dating Lisedi, he was still married to another woman called Kimberly.
“When I became involved with Lesedi, I was still married to Kimberly. I acknowledge that the circumstances were complicated, and I do not pretend that I handled everything perfectly,” read the post.
Confirming that he was never stable in his multiple relationships, Muleya said he ended his marriage to Kimberly to please Lesedi who had always expressed her doubts over the long-term future of their relationship.
Muleya even had time to cherish the day Lesedi gave birth to their son and then pleaded for forgiveness.
Cruelly, the minor child is now an orphan.
“One memory I will never forget is the day our son, Jordan Angels Muleya, was born. I stood beside Lesedi in the theatre throughout the delivery procedure, supporting her until the very end.
“…To the Nkomo and Muleya families, I humbly ask for forgiveness for any pain, disappointment, or embarrassment I may have caused,” he said.
The country has, this year, witnessed a rise in deaths linked to relationships gone sour.
