As Bulawayo’s nightlife continues to attract growing numbers of young people, concerns are mounting over the influence of drugs, alcohol and risky behaviour in clubs.
A 21-year-old artiste from Gwabalanda, Nqobile Jele, popularly known as Solution Master, has responded to the trend through music, releasing a song that confronts drug abuse and the lifestyle many youths are adopting in the city’s nightclubs.
The track, which features Theletja Ngwanaka, Madlela Skhobokhobo, Basotho, Hotice and Loveness, delivers a hard-hitting message, urging young people to rethink their choices and steer away from substance abuse.
In the song, the artistes paint a vivid picture of the so-called “2K” generation — young people who spend nights club-hopping, drinking heavily and, in some cases, engaging in risky relationships for material gain. It also highlights how some girls sneak out of their homes to attend parties, often exposing themselves to danger.
Jele said his inspiration came from what he regularly observes while performing at various entertainment spots around the city.
“I usually perform at clubs and I see these things happening almost every weekend. Young people are caught up in drugs and alcohol, and some are losing direction. That’s when I felt we needed to speak about this lifestyle through music,” he said.
Bringing seasoned artiste Madlela Skhobokhobo on board, the musician said helped strengthen the message.
“We approached umdala wethu, uMadlela so he could add a strong warning to the youth. His voice carries weight, and we wanted the message to have real impact,” said Jele.
Beyond entertainment, the song encourages youths to value guidance from parents and elders, warning that ignoring such advice often leads to hardship.
Jele hopes the track will resonate with young people not only in Gwabalanda but across Zimbabwe.
“I want the song to reach every young person and inspire them. They can still enjoy music and have fun, but they must make better choices and protect their future,” he said.
Through the release, Solution Master joins a growing number of local artistes using their platforms to address social issues affecting the city’s youth, turning the spotlight on nightlife culture and its hidden dangers.
