A much younger crowd attended this year’s 66th edition of the Castle Tankard horse race held at Borrowdale Race Course on Saturday.
Zimdancehall music once again dominated the centre stage as some of the genre’s hottest chanters headlined the annual event.
Crowd-pullers from the zimdancehall genre, who include Madedido, Jah Master, Nisha Ts and Uncle Epatan, spiced up the glamorous event with their energetic performances.
The event, which started around mid-morning, was characterised by pomp and fanfare as imbibers got real value for their money.
The biggest event of the day was the Castle Tankard after party which saw Alick Macheso and Progress Chipfumo. Macheso, who was the last performer, put up a scintillating performance, which saw the fans joining him in sing-along.
The singer left an indelible mark at the show.
Macheso had a good day in office as he put up a flawless act, which left fans clamouring for more.
In an Interview, Macheso said was a magical moment as he connected well with his fans that had the young generation mostly.
“When I looked at the audience, I connected eye to eye with my fans and it is always magical especially the young ones.
“It was a great hoot be part of this celebration. My advice to this young generation is to stay away from drugs as they are our future leaders,” he said.
Nisha Ts came prepared and delivered the best performance that solidified the position on the entertainment circles.
Nisha Ts delivered a solid performance, impressing the audience with her energy and passion.
She said it was a great feeling to perform before a huge crowd.
The chanter also said she will be working on a new album that is set to be delivered in September.
For this month, Nisha Ts is working on a new single set to be released month end.
“I had a good time performing. This is always a big thing for me as an artist. My fans should expect a new single and I will give them a album later this year,” she said.
The Castle Tankard has over the years evolved into more than just a horse race.
It is now regarded as one of the country’s biggest social gatherings where sport, fashion, betting, food, music and entertainment come together under one roof.
