A COWDRAY Park man attacked and strangled his mother (63), claiming she was practicing black magic.
Brian Muvirimi (29) appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Bethel Negato facing a physical abuse charge after a family dispute took a disturbing turn.
Muvirimi pleaded guilty and was fined US$110.
If he fails to pay, he will spend 30 days behind bars.
The court also handed him a further three-month prison sentence, wholly suspended for three years on condition that he does not commit a similar offence.
Prosecuting, Mandrela Chisiiwa said Muvirimi unleashed terror on his mum on 29 May 2026 at around 11AM.
The court heard that Muvirimi arrived home heavily intoxicated and immediately began threatening his mother.
As tensions rose, he accused the elderly woman of being a witch and blamed her for his problems.
Instead of stopping at the accusations, the enraged son grabbed his mother by the neck and strangled her.
Neighbours and family members were stunned as the bizarre witchcraft claims escalated into physical violence.
The complainant did not seek medical treatment following the incident.
A police report was filed, leading to Muvirimi’s arrest and eventual appearance before the courts.
Accusing his mother of witchcraft proved costly to Muvirimi, leaving him lighter in the pocket and with a criminal conviction hanging over his head.
