ZANU PF has said all systems are in place for tomorrow’s Victoria Falls local authority by-elections, with the ruling party expressing confidence of securing victory in Wards 9, 10 and 11 following an intensive campaign to mobilise voters.
The by-elections were necessitated by the recall of former CCC councillors Mthunzi Mpofu, Nkanyiso Sibindi and Daniel Moyo.
In an interview yesterday, ZANU PF Matabeleland North provincial secretary for administration Cde Douglas Khoza said the party had completed all its campaign preparations.
“Our ward campaign teams have been going door-to-door asking and encouraging residents of the three wards to come out in their numbers and vote for ZANU PF candidates on August 1, 2026,” said Cde Khoza.
He said the campaign received a major boost from visits by senior party leaders.
“The National Political Commissar, Cde Munyaradzi Machacha came and addressed some rallies in the three wards, further strengthening our campaign. Matabeleland North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution and ZANU PF provincial chairman Cde Richard Moyo attended the rallies as well.”
Cde Khoza said the ruling party was confident of winning all three seats, citing the development projects implemented by the Second Republic in Victoria Falls since the 2023 harmonised elections.
“These projects have created many employment opportunities for youths in Victoria Falls and surrounding areas,” he said.
ZANU PF has fielded Cde Tapiwa Kwendu Sibanda in Ward 9, Cde Thindolie Sibanda in Ward 10 and Cde George Mhlanga in Ward 11, where they will face independent candidates.
