AT least 7 000 people, including 3 500 party delegates and supporting staff, foreign delegates, media personnel, diplomats and other guests, are expected to attend the 23rd Zanu-PF National People’s Conference in Chinhoyi next month.
Zanu-PF National Chairman Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri is leading preparations and working closely with Mashonaland West provincial chairperson Cde Marry Mliswa-Chikoka to ensure the success of the conference.
The conference, to be held at Chinhoyi University of Technology in Mashonaland West Province from October 12 to 17, will review the implementation of Government programmes based on party policies and assess progress on previous resolutions as the ruling party seeks to accelerate delivery of Vision 2030.
Each province is expected to mobilise US$500 000 towards feeding delegates attending the conference.
Zanu-PF Secretary for Information and Publicity Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa said preparations for the conference were progressing well.
He said the gathering would provide an opportunity for the party to assess how its policies were being translated into programmes and tangible results on the ground.
The 23rd Zanu-PF National Conference will be held under the theme: “From resolutions to results: Consolidating economic development and deepening economic empowerment towards Vision 2030.”
“The conference will review the work carried out by the Government as it implements the policies of Zanu-PF,” he said.
“The elected Government is responsible for executing these policies on the ground, while the party reviews progress and provides appropriate guidelines to ensure effective implementation.”
Cde Mutsvangwa said the party would also identify successful programmes and examine how they could be refined and replicated more widely to improve the productive lives of people.
“We never sit on our laurels as a party. We are always eager to learn.
“We will be identifying case studies where we have done well, and we will refine them so that they become examples of even broader application in the productive lives of Zimbabweans at work so that prosperity can be delivered,” he said.
The National People’s Conference is one of Zanu-PF’s key policy platforms, providing an opportunity for party members to review progress, evaluate previous resolutions and chart the organisation’s future direction.
Cde Mutsvangwa said the review would also focus on the party’s relationship with the people, its historic commitments and preservation of institutional memory.
He commended the two leaders for spearheading preparations, describing their involvement as a demonstration of the party’s commitment to women’s participation in leadership.
The conference theme places implementation and economic empowerment at the centre of deliberations, with the focus on translating party resolutions into tangible development outcomes in line with Vision 2030.
Meanwhile, party structures have raised the need to align the Zanu-F constitution with the national Constitution, arguing that this would eliminate inconsistencies, strengthen institutional cohesion and reduce internal contests.
