Zim Debate Team arrives in Panama for World Schools Debate Championships

The Zimbabwe national debate team has arrived in Panama for the World Schools Debate Championships, which run from July 24 until August 2.

The global tournament will feature participants from 60 countries, with Africa represented by Zimbabwe, South Africa, Kenya, and Tanzania. Other notable competing nations include the United States, Brazil, Spain, Germany, France, and Japan.

The Zimbabwean delegation to Panama, a country on the isthmus linking Central and South America includes Captain Dean Femayi (Bulawayo), Chuhan Cheng (Harare), Mbonisi Nkala (Bulawayo), and Gabriel Marumahoko (Matabeleland South). Tanatswa Moyo (Harare) and Christian Nhika (Harare) will participate virtually.

The technical team is led by head coach Maison Maphosa, team manager Methembe Mthimkhulu, and senior coach Mary Anne Nazombe.

The team is coming off an impressive performance at the East Africa World Schools Debating and Public Speaking Championship held in Nairobi, Kenya, where they won silver medals. They are aiming to build on that momentum and cement their place among the top debate teams globally.
