THE second edition of the Zimbabwe Queen beauty contest set for April next year is opening doors for single mothers.
Auditions for the second edition are underway and end on December 31.
It’s running under the theme “Purpose, Empower, Impact”.
Farai Zembeni, president of the pageant, said they were redefining the pageant to encompass everyone.
“Auditions began and the closing date is December 31 and anyone can apply as long as they are between 18 and 32.
“We have added another dimension where we are taking single mothers to participate.
“We have seen how the world is evolving and also giving birth is the essence of being a woman so why deny them the right to change their lives through this platform only because what nature permits?
“We are redefining pageantry and putting an end to ridiculous rules and discrimination, for example, we are now allowing single mothers to take part.
“Age limit is now from 18 to 32 and we want to empower young people from all backgrounds hence we have cut down registration fees and it’s now free to take part in a pageant without paying for anything.
“Winners have great things waiting for them – a better prize package and, with our reigning queen who did well in Poland last July, we want to uphold that and produce great stewards and representatives of the country.”
He said after the selection, the winners will be assigned to other pageants.
“After we select winners we will send them to Miss Global, Miss Supranational and Mr Supranational.”
The reigning queen is Alexandria Nice while Kimberly Tatenda Mayoyo is Miss Supranational and Tatenda Njanike is the reigning Mr Supranational.
