Australia posted 356 for six in 50 overs, setting Zimbabwe a target of 357 to level the three-match series.
Zimbabwe’s captain won the toss and elected to field first.
Travis Head led Australia’s charge with a blistering 100 off 75 balls, while Mitchell Marsh made 51 as the visitors raced to 130 without loss.
Marsh was the first wicket to fall for 51 in the 19th over after being bowled out by Wellington Masakadza, before Head departed for 100 at 190 in the 28th over from the bowling of Wesley Madhevere and a catch from Ryan Burl.
Masakadza was to claim his second of the day, dismissing Josh Inglis at 229 in the 35th over.
Alex Carey followed at 286 in the 44th over from a Brad Evans delivery which was caught by Ryan Burl.
Cooper Connolly, who made 54 off 52 balls, was dismissed for the fifth wicket at 297 in the 46th over by Evans, before Matt Renshaw fell for 36 at 321 in the 48th over from another Evans delivery.
Australia accelerated sharply in the closing stages, scoring 101 runs in the final 10 overs to finish on 356 for six.
Zimbabwe will need 357 runs from their 50 overs to claim victory.
