President Mnangagwa has challenged Zimbabwe’s ambassadors, ambassadors-designate and chargés d’affaires to intensify the country’s diplomatic engagement and re-engagement drive by placing national development and economic transformation at the centre of their work.
Speaking during a meet-and-greet engagement with members of Zimbabwe’s foreign service in Harare today, the President said the country’s diplomatic missions must actively contribute to Government’s development agenda by opening doors for trade, investment, tourism, technology transfer and skills development.
“Working in liaison with the relevant departments back home, you have a duty to advance our national development goals and transform the quality of life for every Zimbabwean,” he said.
President Mnangagwa said Zimbabwe’s embassies should be viewed as strategic and competitive platforms for promoting the country’s economic interests rather than merely centres of diplomatic representation.
“All embassies are strategic and competitive platforms for trade promotion, investment facilitation and tourism marketing,” said the President.
He said the effective execution of their responsibilities should result in tangible benefits for Zimbabweans through the attraction of new technologies, scientific cooperation and specialist skills from other jurisdictions.
“Through the effective execution of your roles, our country should benefit from technology transfer, scientific cooperation as well as specialist scientific skills training, which are found in other jurisdictions,” he said.
