ZIMBABWE Newspapers (1980) Limited has announced a major strategic restructuring programme that will see the media giant cut jobs as it transitions into a digital-first organisation.
Board chairperson Mrs Doreen Sibanda announced the changes in a statement to stakeholders yesterday, citing rapid technological advancements and changing media consumption patterns as the main drivers for the overhaul.
Mrs Sibanda said the move seeks to secure the company’s long-term competitiveness and financial sustainability.
As part of the restructuring, Zimpapers Television Network (ZTN) will migrate away from its traditional linear television model to a digital Over-the-Top (OTT) platform.
Simultaneously, the Newspapers Division will be realigned into a digital and mobile-first operating structure.
“These changes require the reorganisation of operations, consolidation of functions, and optimisation of organisational structures. As a result, certain positions have become redundant within the revised operating model, and the Company has commenced a retrenchment process in compliance with applicable labour laws and established human resources procedures.
“Zimpapers remains committed to treating all affected employees with fairness, dignity and respect throughout the process while continuing to deliver quality content and services to its audiences, advertisers, shareholders and other stakeholders,” Mrs Sibanda said.
