Mbulelo Mpofu in Gwanda
Zimbabwe’s premier music royalty collection and distribution agency, Zimbabwe Music Rights (Zimura), is in Gwanda this week to advance its copyright awareness drive for stakeholders in the music sector.
The Zimura team, led by board chairman Albert Nyathi, includes deputy director Henry Makombe, executive director Polisile Ncube-Chimhini, Bulawayo branch manager David Makombe, head of licensing department Servious Matiza, head of documentation and distribution Roseline Chirume-Banda, public relations manager Clarence Garura, and other key members.
The consultative meeting is scheduled for Thursday at the Brethren in Christ Church (BICC) in Gwanda. The session will cover a range of topics, including the benefits of Zimura membership, Intellectual Property (IP) rights, royalty distribution, and the legal implications of not being registered, which exposes individuals to potential issues in the music business.
As part of the campaign, Zimura will also visit local recording studios and Ntepe Manama Community Radio Station to further promote their workshop and engage with the community.
The workshop is particularly relevant for Gwanda, a town traditionally known for mining but now gaining recognition for its vibrant music scene, with groups and artistes like Master Zhoe, Ufasimba, Zhezhingtonz, Miracle Records boss Kwanele “The Musicologist” Moyo, and Sithandazile Nyathi elevating the town’s profile.
