Zinara allocates US$4m to Harare for roads

The Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) has allocated US$4 million to the City of Harare for road works during the current financial year.

Speaking during a virtual Ward 9 residents’ feedback meeting recently, Mr Mutasa from the City of Harare’s Roads Department said the allocation would support the rehabilitation and construction of roads across the capital.

He said constructing one kilometre of road costs about US$1 million, highlighting the significant funding required to address Harare’s road infrastructure challenges.

“The city is trying its level best. All roads in Greendale, we have put them on routine maintenance ie gravel patching, pothole patching, tar patching,” he said.

“In Greendale, we have started on three roads; Court Road, we are doing pothole patching. Rhodesville Avenue, we have done, but it’s not yet finished, and Coronation Avenue, we are going to do resealing.”

Turning to refuse collection, Ms Trish Mukudu from waste collection at Geo Pomona Waste Management Pvt Ltd said there are two trucks based in Greendale.

She said Geo Pomona Waste Management Pvt Lt is going to issue steel bins for each household, which will be distributed through the City of Harare.

Ms Mukudu said some of them are already on site.

“I think they are waiting for the number for the whole of Harare,” she said.
