Police in Bulawayo are on Saturday rallying residents to join hands with law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime as part of a campaign aimed at building a safer and crime-free city.
The awareness campaign, being held under the theme “ZRP Bulawayo Central Rallying Towards a Crime Free Society,” is being held at the intersection of Fife Street and Fifth Avenue in Bulawayo.
The initiative is targeting some of the crimes and social ills that continue to affect communities, including drug abuse, motor vehicle theft, theft from cars, chadonha (robbery) and sexual offences.
The police are calling on members of the public to play an active role in crime prevention by reporting suspicious activities and providing information that could assist in the detection and prevention of crime.
The campaign carries the message: “See something, say something,” underscoring the importance of community participation in combating crime.
The initiative is also encouraging residents to work together with the police to create safer communities, with the police emphasising that crime prevention cannot be achieved by law enforcement alone.
