PEOPLE in Zvimba have overwhelmingly endorsed the proposed Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3, with no objections raised during public consultations held at Rafingora Community Hall in Zvimba North this afternoon.
The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee leading the consultations, chaired by Kudakwashe Matibiri and deputised by Abigail Gava, heard submissions from community members who expressed strong support for the Bill.
Other members of the committee present included Senator Chief Fortune Charumbira and Zvimba East legislator Kudakwashe Mananzva.
Presenting their views, members of the Zvimba community said the proposed legislation addresses the aspirations of the general populace and reflects the will of the people.
Chief Zvimba, Mr Stanley Mhondoro, said he particularly supports provisions that seek to allow traditional leaders to actively participate in political processes.
“I fully support the Bill, especially clauses that recognise the role of traditional leaders in governance and development,” he said.
At least 40 participants made submissions during the consultative meeting, all expressing support for the Bill in its entirety.
Mashonaland West province today hosted consultations in four districts, Zvimba, Makonde, Mhondoro-Ngezi and Chegutu, as part of nationwide engagements on the proposed constitutional changes.
The outreach programme continues today, with Parliamentary Portfolio Committees expected to hold consultations in Sanyati at Patchway and in Kariba Rural at Makande.
