One person died, while four others were injured when a vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road and overturned near Nyanda Lodge, at least 7km along Masvingo-Beitbridge Highway, police have confirmed.
Masvingo police spokesperson Chief Inspector Charity Mazula said the accident occurred on Tuesday at around 11:49 am.
The vehicle had four passengers when the tragedy struck.
Chief Insp Mazula said the body of the deceased was taken to Masvingo General Hospital for post-mortem.
The injured were also rushed to the same hospital, and three of them are in a critical condition.
“I can confirm the death of one male adult in a road accident involving a Nissan Caravan vehicle,” said Chief Insp Mazula.
“Three passengers and the driver were injured.”
Chief Insp Mazula said on the fateful day, the car driven by Mr Jonathan Madhuku (27) of Kusola Complex, Beitbridge, was heading towards Masvingo.
She said upon approaching the 7km peg along the same road, he lost control of the vehicle and it veered off the road to the right before going to the left and overturning.
The deceased had been given a lift along the way and is unknown.
Chief Insp Mazula appealed to members of the public with a relative who may have travelled to Masvingo on Tuesday and never returned to check with Masvingo General Hospital.
“We appeal to members of the public who may have a relative who travelled to Masvingo or towards the same direction, to come to Masvingo General Hospital for identification,” he said.
