10-years jail for woman who doused hubby with petrol, set him alight

THE 42-YEAR-OLD woman from Maphisa, Matabeleland South province, who killed her husband after dousing him with petrol before setting him alight following a dispute over infidelity has been sentenced to an effective 10-year jail sentence.

Sindiso Ndlovu appeared before Bulawayo High Court Judge, Nokuthula Moyo facing a charge of murder. She pleaded not guilty to the charge but was convicted after trial and sentenced.

The court heard that on 19 October 2019 at around 9pm, Ndlovu and the deceased Busani Ncube were at their home when a domestic dispute arose in their bedroom concerning Ncube’s alleged infidelity.

According to the State, Ndlovu locked the bedroom door while Ncube was lying on the bed. She set the deceased alight using petrol and a matchstick. The matter was reported to the police and the scene was attended to, leading to Ndlovu’s arrest.

The deceased was taken to Maphisa District Hospital and was later referred to United Bulawayo Hospital due to the gravity of his wounds. He died on 8 January 2020 and according to the post mortem report, he succumbed to pneumonia and burns.
