Johannesburg — Hundreds took to the streets of Johannesburg South on Saturday, making a statement against drug dealers and marching past their homes. The demonstration, organised by the local council attracted over 400 people — beginning at Rotunda Park in Turfontein — with various community organisations and the community at large in the Johannesburg South area in attendance. “The route of the march went past houses of suspected drug dealers to show them and the community that the fight against drugs will be intensified,” DA MP Manny de Freitas said.
He said he was thankful for the attendance of Crimeline CEO, Yusuf Abramjee. “It shows we’re serious and I was impressed with how he led the chant ‘say no to drugs’,” he said.
De Freitas said the march was not a once-off event but part of an overall strategy in the fight against drugs. — AFP
