care and support, a Catholic University rector, Simon Nondo has said.
Speaking at the Catholic University 8th graduation ceremony last Friday, that saw 102 graduates successfully completing their studies in different fields, Rector Nondo said universities should put women first when enrolling students.
“In all faculties, women have to constitute a greater percentage.
“There should be a clear testimony that men and women have to walk together in all endeavours.
“Also students have to be taught Christian values and the importance of putting God before everything else and everything has to demonstrate the socio-cultural, educational and scientific riches in Zimbabwe,” he said.
Rector Nondo said graduates have to be independent, but should assist society to develop.
“Graduations are meant to set people apart and to serve other people rather than be served, to recognise problems that bedevil the society and help in solving them, to be sensitive to those who are suffering and relieve them of that suffering,” Rector Nondo said at the weekend.
Rector Nondo urged married couples to work together with their families in spite of other challenges.
“Some of you are married and do not expect your husband or wife to behave like you, he or she has a personality of his or her own which must be cultivated through a healthy partnership.”
Students graduated with degrees in Bachelor of Theology, Bachelor of Arts (General) and Bachelor of Business Management and Information Technology among others.
Among the graduands, 53 percent were women while 47 percent were men.
For the first time, the University presented nine men of the cloth with certificates in Theology.
Among them, Edmore Tarambiwa and Prosper Zvirikuzhe received the university book prizes for coming up with first class degrees in Bachelor of Business Management and Information Technology.
Yeukai Kupara also received the book prize in Bachelor of Arts Dual Honours Degree and Claudius Madovi scooped an award in Bachelor of Arts General Degree.
