The Business Community of Zimbabwe (BCZ) has donated $10 000 to Queen of Grace Zim-Asset Trust to repair vending infrastructure that was damaged by opposition parties’ thugs during their illegal demonstration that was held under the banner of National Electoral Reform Agenda (NERA). The hooligans unleashed an orgy of violence in Harare, looting shops, burning properties, stoning cars and attacking innocent people.The money was handed over to Queen of Grace Zim-Asset Trust secretary general, Mr Ephraim Chizola, by BCZ chairman Mr Jimayi Muduvuri at the weekend.
The latest development comes after vendors and retailers, whose vehicles and wares running into hundreds of thousands of dollars were looted, while others were destroyed in violent demonstrations that rocked Harare recently.
Some vendors are demanding compensation from MDC-T or else they will take the battle to the party’s headquarters at Harvest House in Harare.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Mr Muduvuri said the donation was in support of the true spirit of entrepreneurship.
“We want to see women and youths empowered so that they will become self-sufficient. The syndrome of going to work must stop. Our President (Mugabe) is on record saying people should create their own employment rather than wait to be employed,” he said.
Mr Muduvuri said BCZ was going to mobilise more money for vendors in the country.
“We are going to create a fund for the growth of vendors in Zimbabwe. We are going to create a funding model, which is going to attract investors. We will be working with local authorities as we strive to keep up with modern standards of vending,” he said.
He took a swipe at Zimbabwe People First leader Dr Joice Mujuru and MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai as agents of destruction, darkness and disempowerment.
“If these two leaders are true to their word of fighting for democracy, they should learn to engage in dialogue rather than engaging in violent demonstrations, which leave a trail of destruction. Gone are the days of these barbaric and primitive actions,” Mr Muduvuri said.
He urged the youths to refuse to be used by “failed politicians” to create anarchy in the country.
Mr Chizola said the donation would go a long way in assisting vendors.
“We want to thank the positive move by BCZ, which is being led by (Mr) Jimayi Muduvuri for this donation that will go a long way in helping our affected members to repair and reconstruct the damage caused by evil assemblers of violence. They burnt down our tents and wares,” he said.
He said they were never going to abandon the ruling party because of bullying and destruction tactics by “brainless” MDC-T thugs. “We are not going to be cowed into submission and revolt against the elected Government of Cde R.G Mugabe. These are minor setbacks, and we urge our members to move forward to realise their dreams of self employment,” Mr Chizola said.
