OVER 11 000 spectators paid their way into Barbourfields Stadium to witness the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match between Highlanders and FC Platinum on Sunday.
Highlanders won the match 2-1 to pick up their first league win over the four times in a row champions since August 2014. Stanley Ngala and Peter Muduhwa produced the goods for Amahlolanyama while 2021/22 Soccer Star of the Year Walter Musona responded with a well-executed strike for Pure Platinum.

Yesterday, Highlanders officially stated that the crowd at Emagumeni on Sunday was 11 046. Bosso expressed gratitude to their fans who came out in their numbers to back the team do battle.
“Thank you to the 11 046 spectators who came to watch us play at BF yesterday. How many people do you think will be in attendance for our Chicken Inn match this Friday? Numbers don’t lie,’’ said Highlanders in a statement.
Sunday’s crowd was by far the best to witness a local club match this season with just over 6 000 turning up to watch Highlanders draw 0-0 with ZPC Kariba. No other local team has so far recorded such good crowds in the 2023 season.
A crowd similar to the one on Sunday is expected when Highlanders clash with Chicken Inn in a Bulawayo derby at Barbourfields on Good Friday. Sadly for Amahlolanyama, the Gamecocks and other beneficiaries will smile all the way to the bank with three points all Tshilamoya can pick up on the day.
Even more are anticipated fans when Highlanders square off with their fierce rivals Dynamos in their next league match.
Highlanders fans have in their team’s two matches been a marvel with the way they pitched up and created a carnival atmosphere at Emagumeni. After firing blanks when they faced ZPC Kariba, Bosso players matched their fans with a brilliant display to secure maximum points on Sunday. Tshilamoya supporters
now believe that the championship, last won by their team in 2006 under Methembe Ndlovu can finally come home in 2023. — @Mdawini_29
