ELEVEN horses will be vying for a place in the Zimbabwe Guineas Grade (3) race to be held at Borrowdale Race Course on 28 February. This race is over 1 600m and carries $8 000 in stakes money. From the nominations list released by Mashonaland Turf Club, trainer Bridget Stidolp has the highest number of entries after assembling six tried and tested horses to represent the stable.
Stidolp has entered Al Salaam rated 56, Detente (71), Duffi’s Call, Mathematician, Rocky Road (67) and Super Good rated 83.
Trainer Gokhan Terzi fresh from defending the Ipi Tombi Trophy and Amy Bronkhorst have thrown into the hat two horses apiece.
The duo have opted for Pacifica rated 94, Tandava (72), Run The Redlight (61) and Slick (65) respectively. The comeback kid Penny Fish who seems to have hit the ground running after some of her horses registered wins in their respective races to mark her return will saddle Call Me Earl rated 87, if everything goes according to plan.
There are five more Handicap races plus a Maiden Plate competition to be held on the day, a total of 103 that are vying for a place on the final race day.
Meanwhile, trainer Gokhan Terzi walked away the Champion trainer for the second year running after Principled Man cruised clear of the rest of the field to win the Ipi Tombi race at Borrowdale race course last Sunday. Principled Man with Andrew Fortune in the irons arrived home in style to stop the clock in 1minute 37.84 seconds. Such was the dominance of this runner that he led the second placed horse Eurakilon ridden by Lance Pagel by 0.75 lengths.
In third position was Lucky Sam followed by Gentle Brook the last placed horse of the day. For shedding a sweat Principled man delivered a $6 000 winner’s prize leaving the other three runners up to collect $2 000, $1 250 and $750, respectively.
