A MAN from Cowdray Park suburb in Bulawayo has been slapped with a 12-month jail sentence for indecently assaulting his 12-year-old stepdaughter.
The man who cannot be named for ethical reasons, appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Joseph Mabeza facing a charge of rape. He pleaded not guilty to the charge but was found guilty and sentenced. While handing down the sentence the magistrate said the accused was not found guilty of rape but of indecent assault.
“After trial, the accused was found guilty of indecent assault and he was doing this by calling the victim to the bathroom and using his private part to rub on the juvenile’s body. The accused is a parent to the juvenile and the sentence given for such offences is 12 months’ imprisonment,” said Mabeza.
The court heard that in a period extending from 14 April to 30 April 2024, the culprit was indecently assaulting the victim on several occasions. He would rub his manhood on the juvenile’s private part.
The victim disclosed the ordeal to her mother and she reported the matter to the police. Investigations were carried out leading to the arrest of the culprit. A medical report was produced in court as evidence.
