At least 12 people died on Tuesday morning when a petrol tanker, two trucks, and a Nissan AD Van collided near the Sebakwe River in Midlands Province.
The accident occurred at the 200km peg along the Harare-Bulawayo Road.
National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the accident.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a fatal road traffic accident that occurred at the 200-kilometre peg along the Harare-Bulawayo Road, near Kwekwe, on May 27, 2025, in the morning.
Twelve people were killed when a petrol tanker with two trailers, a two-tonne truck, and a Nissan AD Van with 12 occupants collided near the Sebakwe River.”
“The fuel tanker first hit the two-tonnne truck as it was travelling in the opposite direction. It then had a head-on collision with the AD van, which was also travelling in the opposite direction. Subsequently, the tanker dragged the AD van for several meters and then overturned before falling on top of the AD Van. The fuel tanker was travelling from Harare towards Kwekwe.”
“The occupants in the AD Van were trapped inside. The bodies of the victims were taken to Kwekwe General Hospital for a post-mortem. More details will be released in due course,” he said.
