13 Covid-19 deaths in past 24 hours, as Hre, Byo record no new cases

ZIMBABWE recorded 13 new deaths as a result of Covid, with Harare breaching the 100.

According to statistics released by the Ministry of Health and Child Care, as of Wednesday, the country’s two Covid-19 hotspots, Harare and Bulawayo did not record any new case with Harare however constituting 10 of the 13 deaths.

“55 cases and 13 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours, no new case were reported in Harare and Bulawayo but Harare reported 10 deaths to go past 100 deaths in Harare alone. Of the new cases 36 are local and five returnees from Botswana while 14 are from South Africa.

“Active cases go up to 1 071, the other deaths are from Mashonaland East (one) and Matabeleland South (two). As of 26 August, Zimbabwe has therefore recorded 6251 cases, 5 001 recoveries and 179 deaths,” reads the update

A total of 40 new recoveries were reported, with the Ministry noting that the recovery rate remains at 80 percent.
