FORMER Highlanders assistant coach Joel Luphahla has revealed that the decision to leave the Bulawayo giants was solely his own, not that of the club executive as may have been perceived.
Luphahla left the Bulawayo giants in January last year, having joined in March 2022 as second assistant coach to then-head coach Mandla Lulu Mpofu.
Writing on his Facebook post-Tuesday morning, Luphahla, now head coach at reigning Premier Soccer League champions Simba Bhora, said he decided to leave Bosso so as to grow as a coach.
“When I left the club a lot was said (but) I left for my growth because I don’t allow myself to be stifled by situations. If I had not left would I be where I am today? I doubt that,” wrote Luphahla.
He said coach Kelvin Kaindu had expressed his willingness to work with him, revealing that while still in Zambia Kaindu recommended him to club bosses but the deal fell through as he didn’t possess a Caf B licence then.
Luphahla said that the belief in him shown by Kaindu tells exactly what the Zambian thinks of him as a man and coach.
“I had to go, it was my decision. I am the one who wrote a letter to the club to be released so I can go and grow. After 10 months I had done my B Diploma and I am grateful that I am growing as my own man. There is no bad blood between me and the club as I left on my own accord and now I am here at Simba Bhora FC to continue on my path till I reach my destination and play in the Champions League final. That dream lives on because Bosso gave me that step,” said Luphahla.
