13 teachers in the dock

that had been involved in an accident last week.
The group appeared in court on Monday facing theft charges.
Gladys Macheke (30), Patience Chikutire (26), Viona Gijima (27), Jeniffer Runopamara (28) of Rata Primary School in Mwenezi were not asked to plead when they appeared before magistrate Mr Stanley Mambanje.
They were jointly charged with Etina Chinooneka (24) and Mugove Dube of Marawa Primary School, Tendeukai Mhlanga (55), Innocent Madumba (26), Everest Masiyachawana (34) of Musaverengwa Primary School and Zebed Dzinovatonga (23), Benjamin Moyo (40), Douglas Mukogo (34) of Shazharume Secondary School.
The teachers, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Mr Mambanje remanded them out of custody on free bail to October 19 for trial.
Charges against the group arose when they were travelling in a kombi to Masvingo on September 23 and they saw a truck that had been involved in an accident in the Museva area near Ngundu Growth Point.
The teachers allegedly stole the cornflakes from the truck while the truck driver watched.
They allegedly loaded 93kg of cornflakes into the kombi and continued with their journey to Masvingo.
Police at a tollgate at Chivi Growth Point intercepted them.
All the cornflakes were recovered.
Mr Stanley Mafoko appeared for the State.
Several cases of people looting vehicles that would have been involved in accidents have been reported nationwide.
The police warn citizens that it is a crime to take any belongings from accident scenes.
