14 000 more register to vote in Mash West

At least 14 000 more voters have registered in Mashonaland West province, according to information from the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.

The number of voter registrants have increased by 14 117 between February to May this year.

The new registrants took advantage of the ongoing voting process at the commission’s district offices, as well as the inspection of the provisional voters’ roll which started on May 19.

The inspection of the provisional voters’ roll ended on Tuesday.

“As at February 2018, 611 751 people had registered to vote and as at May 2018, 625 868 have registered,” ZEC noted.

According to ZEC, Chegutu District recorded the highest turnout of voters, with 5 625 new registrants.

“As of February, 101 114 people had registered in Chegutu and as of May, 106 739 are registered,” ZEC said.

The figures also reveal a surge in the number of male registered against their counterparts, with 7 755 male registered against 6 362 females.

Across the country, 307 604 registered males against 299 849 during the same period, while female figures as at May stands at 318 264 against 311 902 in February, respectively.

Acting ZEC Mashonaland West provincial elections manager Mr Austin Ndlovu said the province had reached the expected target of at least 500 000 voters.
