FOURTEEN people were injured on Thursday morning when two commuter omnibuses collided along Luveve Road in Bulawayo, forcing both vehicles off the roadway and into nearby maize fields.

Bulawayo Chief Fire Officer Mr Mhlangano Moyo said the accident occurred just after Rio turnoff, with emergency services responding swiftly to the scene.

He said the impact of the collision sent the two kombis veering off the road before landing in the fields.

“Our crews attended a road traffic accident involving two commuter omnibuses that collided in the middle of Luveve Road,” said Mr Moyo. “Both vehicles veered off the roadway and landed in the maize fields. We transported 14 injured patients to Mpilo Central Hospital, including a BCC employee who was seated in the front seat of one of the vehicles.”

Mr Moyo said Fire and Ambulance Services mobilised three additional ambulances to assist with the response.

He urged motorists to exercise caution and appealed to road users to allow emergency services space to work safely when incidents occur.
