A Chitungwiza businesswoman severely assaulted a commuter omnibus conductor she employed for going off-route after the vehicle developed a mechanical fault. Emily Mahuwe (39) of Zengeza 3 was lucky to escape a prison term after she was sentenced to 140 hours of community service. Mahuwe pleaded guilty to assault before Chitungwiza magistrate Ms Nomsa Sabarauta.
Ms Sabarauta sentenced her to 10 months in prison but conditionally set aside six months for five years on condition she does not commit a similar crime during that period.
The remaining four months were commuted to unpaid work at Shingai Primary School in Chitungwiza.
Prosecutor Ms Mandipa Karanda said on January 8, Talent Muradya (24) — who was employed as a conductor by Mahuwe — and the driver took the kombi off-route in search of passengers.
When it developed a fault, the driver left Muradya manning the bus and called his employer to inform her of what had happened.
Mahuwe came with a hired vehicle to tow the bus. But on arrival, she charged towards Muradya and floored him with a flurry of blows.
