FIFTEEN football fans have since appeared in court in connection with acts of violence that occurred at Babourfields Stadium in the abandoned match between Dynamos FC and Highlanders FC on September 10.
Last week, the police confirmed they had arrested 19 people in connection with the skirmishes at the Stadium.
Bulawayo-based Lawyer Nqobani Sithole who is representing the arrested fans confirmed that they appeared in court last week.
“We have dealt with 15 that were arrested and the charge is public violence. They appeared first on initial remand. They were remanded in custody and should be appearing in court on September 28,” said Sithole.
The violence erupted 38 minutes into the match after alleged Bosso fans ran amok, invading the pitch to protest against referee Allen Bhasvi’s decision before attacking and injuring police officers.
Several people were injured including four Police officers who were on duty as fans from both sides ran amok following a pitch invasion by suspected Bosso fans from the Soweto End.
Suspected Dynamos fans also invaded the pitch and had fights with Highlanders fans from the Empankweni End on the pitch resulting in one being stabbed.
Crowd trouble continued outside the stadium.
Police used tear smoke at disperse groups of fans engaged in violence.
At that time, Dynamos were leading 2-0.
Highlanders FC, player Peter Muduhwa and Dynamos FC will today appear before the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Disciplinary Committee over the disturbances.
Highlanders FC have been charged for causing the abandonment of the match, missile throwing, pitch invasion, acts of violence and malicious damage to property.
Bosso player, Peter Muduhwa is being accused of inciting violence and improper behaviour which brings the league into disrepute. Dynamos FC have also been charged for pitch invasion, missile throwing and acts of violence.
Arrested suspects are: Raymond Nkomo (25) Makokoba, Bulawayo, Noboth Sithole of Mzilikazi, Bulawayo, Sylvester Gumbo (30) Old Pumula, Shepherd Ncube(26) of BMC, Mzilikazi, Wisdom Dube (30) Nkulumane 5, Shepherd Dube (24) of Ngozi Mine, Bulawayo, Raymond Nkomo (26) Makokoba, Micah Masuku (49), Makokoba, Zibusiso Nkomo (32) Old Lobengula, Nelson Musengi (27) Pelandaba West, Brian Moyo (36) New Luveve), Willard Ncube (46) Pumula North, Khumbulani Khumalo (49), Sauerstown, Promise Mbambo (37) Jabulani Flats, Makokoba, Hlakanipha Luphahla (28), Old Pumula, Japhet Ncube (30) Cowdray Park, Brandon Mpala (27), Masiyepambili Flats, Ayanda Dube (33), Old Pumula and Prince Moyo (35) Old Pumula.
