At least 15 Zimbabweans are on the international police most wanted list for committing murder and robbery related offences in the region and internationally.
According to the International Police Organisation (Interpol), there are more than 258 people they are looking for in connection with various offences, including the 15 locals.
Some of the offences committed by the suspects include murder, corruption, crimes against children, financial crimes, firearms, organised crime, human smuggling, pharmaceutical crimes, terrorism, trafficking in human beings, trafficking in illicit goods, vehicle crimes and war and weapons crimes.
According to Interpol’s Red Notice for international arrests, at least seven Zimbabwean suspects are wanted for murder and eight for robbery related offences.
Those wanted for murder are identified as Joseph Nyathi (44), David Mukonzi (41), Nkuluza George Moyo (37), Aluois Manjengwa (27), Fashion Mupakati (39), Phillip Chiusuru (33) and Sipho Mangena (49), who is also wanted in connection with eight cases of attempted murder.
Their whereabouts are unknown, but they are believed to have skipped Zimbabwe into neighbouring countries operating under newly acquired identification documents to evade arrest.
Police sources yesterday said the wanted persons had been placed under Interpol’s Red Notices, which meant they were wanted in several countries for committing various crimes.
Regional and international police, through Interpol, inform their Zimbabwean counterparts about any locals they would be looking for in order to get them prosecuted.
