16 000 farmers to benefit from Presidential Inputs Scheme

Increase Gumbo in Mwenezi
More than 16 000 farmers in Mwenezi are set to benefit from the Presidential Input Support Scheme which is targeting small-scale farmers, providing them with free inputs such as fertilizers and seeds. In an interview, GMB Mwenezi depot manager Mr Tawana Masiyambiri said they had received 150 tonnes of maize seed and 19 800 bags of compound D fertilizer to be distributed to farmers in the district. He said the inputs would be available for all farmers especially villagers who have problems accessing the necessary requirements.

“These inputs are given to farmers especially small scale farmers and we are giving each a bag of maize seed and a bag of fertilizer and almost 16 000 farmers would benefit from this program,” he said. Ward 13 councillor, Mr Takura Mudawose, who witnessed the distribution, hailed President Mugabe for making sure that farmers get the inputs way ahead of the rainy season.

“We are grateful that this year the inputs have been dispatched early before raining season starts. Now that we have the inputs we can now prepare our fields in time and we can also plant our crops in time.

“We are also happy that our President remembers our peasant farmers every year because this scheme accommodates everyone.” Cde Mudawose, however, appealed for Government to increase the inputs so that every household benefits. Most farmers who received the inputs hailed President Mugabe for making sure that farmers can contribute in the fight against poverty and hunger.
