He is just 16 years old and already reaching for the stars.
Simba Gunda is set to become the youngest player in the Premier Soccer League this coming season after joining giants CAPS United. The speedy winger was signed from one of the best academies in the country, Jadel Football Academy which is run by Walter Musanhu.
He was unveiled along with six new other players at the Green Machine last week.
And he is eager to showcase himself in the elite league when the 2024 season commences.
The former Visitation Makumbe High School learner who has just passed his Ordinary Levels and considering enrolling for Advanced Levels is an elated lot.
“This is a dream come true for me. I am very happy to have completed this massive move. “I know my responsibilities going forward. I know the task that lies ahead,” said Gunda.
“CAPS United is a big team that needs a big mentality. “I will do everything to keep up with their expectations as I try to navigate my way in the big boys’ terrain.
“I have been playing in the academy and I know for real that football in the Premiership is a different ball game altogether.
“I will put in the work and put my head on the block to fit in. But I am very confident that I will be able to deliver the goods”.
Gunda said the senior players at Makepekepe have been handy in his integration. “You know fitting in a team with a rich history like CAPS United is tricky.
“But I would like to salute the senior players who have been there to help me settle. “So far so good and everything is looking positive.
“I have been blown away by the love that members of the CAPS United family have shown me since Day 1.
“With this environment, I know it won’t be difficult to shine.
“I am looking forward to a fruitful season with CAPS United and winning trophies. “I am also still considering a lot about my academic future.
“I did fairly well passing seven subjects at Ordinary Level and I am still figuring out what’s best for me”. Gunda will become one of the few players to debut in the top flight aged just 16 in this country.
The last player to do that and flourish was former Warriors captain Peter Ndlovu back in 1990
