16-year-old up for attempted murder

A 16-YEAR-OLD school dropout was hauled to court for allegedly stabbing his neighbour with an okapi knife following a misunderstanding.

Kwanele Mpofu of Pumula South suburb appeared before magistrate Abednico Ndebele for allegedly attempting to murder 16-year-old Warren Kutsanzira of the same suburb.

Ndebele did not ask Mpofu to plead and remanded him out of custody to December 16, 2015 for trial at the Bulawayo Regional Court.

The teen told the court he stabbed Kutsanzira in self defence.

“We had a quarrel. He tried to stab me with a knife. I took the knife and unintentionally stabbed him,” said Mpofu.

Prosecuting, Maria John told the court that on November 16, 2015 at around 7PM the two boys had a misunderstanding leading to a confrontation.
