SEVENTEEN Malawians who sneaked into Zimbabwe illegally saw their luck run out — thanks to a deadly twist of fate!
The group was busted on 30 March 2025 when the Achisi bus they were riding in was involved in a fatal smash at the 165km peg along the Harare-Chirundu Road.
When ZRP Karoi Traffic officers arrived at the wreckage, they quickly realised something else was wrong: none of the seventeen passengers had immigration papers!
The illegal travelers were hauled before the Karoi Magistrates Court, where each was slapped with a US$110 fine or 30 days behind bars if they fail to pay. They will also be deported as part of their punishment, in line with the Immigration Act [Chapter 4:02].
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) says the conviction is part of their ongoing drive to “Combat Crime and Corruption.”
