A Zimbabwean company plans to construct a 1,7 megawatt hydro-power plant in Chimanimani, a move expected to boost electricity output. The plant will generate 1, 7 megawatts using water from Nyahode River. In a statement, the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera), said Immaculate Technologies Private Limited applied for the construction of the facility.“Notice is hereby given that the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera) has received an application from Immaculate Technologies Private Limited to construct, own, operate and maintain a 1,7 megawatt plant for the purpose of generation and supply of electricity in Zimbabwe.
“The name of the generation station would be Nyahode Hydro-power Plant. The proposed plant will generate electricity from hydro on Nyahode River in Chimanimani Rural District Council in Manicaland. The application by Immaculate Technologies Private Limited has been done in terms of the provisions of Section 40 of the Electricity Act (Chapter 13:19) of 2002,” read part of the statement.
The hydro-power project will begin once the company has acquired all necessary construction permits from Zera.
Zimbabwe’s perennial power shortages have crippled the operations of several companies while households are enduring long periods of power cuts.
