19-year-old up for sodomy

Court Reporter
A 19-year-old man yesterday appeared in court on allegations of aggravated indecent assault after he allegedly sodomised an eight-year-old boy.

Gerald Kanyungwe appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Milton Serima who denied him bail and remanded him to December 15.

Mr Serima noted that Kanyungwe was facing a serious offence and was not a fit candidate for bail since he could be a threat to society. Mr Serima then advised him to apply for bail at the High Court.

The prosecutor Ms Sharon Mashavira alleged that on dates not known, Kanyungwe called the boy to his bedroom and forced him to have anal sex.

He did it on several occasions and threatened to kill the boy if he told anyone about the incident.

Ms Mashavira said the matter only came to light when the boy told his mother about it.

The mother then made a report to the police leading to Kanyungwe’s arrest.
