AT least 2 000 youths from Bulawayo are set to undergo training at the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology, an institution that aims to stimulate national consciousness and patriotism.

Finance, Economic Development, and Investment Promotion Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube, revealed this during a meeting held at the provincial war veterans’ offices in Entumbane suburb where he promised to assist the initiative by donating necessities such as food stuffs and other provisions.

At least 3 000 youths from the city have so far undergone the training with the ruling party, Zanu-PF, targeting to train 5 000 by August this year.

“We need to work hard, study hard, and stay away from drugs. This is a noble initiative. The world has become competitive, and the biggest competitor in the world is Asia. Zimbabwe is also becoming competitive, and we need to ensure that we are part of the competition while protecting our interests as a nation,” said Prof Ncube.

He said the objective of the ideology training programme is to encourage the youth to play a part in developing the country’s economy.

“The school is affiliated to Zanu-PF and has so far mobilised youths not just from the party but from opposition parties to be part of the initiative,” said Prof Ncube.

He said the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology aims to promote national consciousness and patriotism, which can indirectly contribute to economic growth.

Prof Ncube said by fostering a sense of unity and shared vision, the programme can encourage greater national development and potentially lead to better service delivery, ultimately benefiting the economy.
Zanu-PF Bulawayo provincial chairman, Cde Jabulani Sibanda, said the party was working on improving the course, which seeks to align the youth with the country’s interests and ideologies.

“We want to gather at least 2 000 youths within the week because this is a life-changing programme for the youths. This creates a sense of identity and belonging while promoting national interests,” said Cde Sibanda.
He said the school aims to stimulate a sense of national pride and belonging, which can motivate citizens to contribute to their country’s economic progress.

“The school is involved in training programmes, including those targeting youths, which can equip individuals with skills and knowledge to participate in income-generating projects thereby contributing to the country’s economic growth,” said Cde Sibanda.

He said the school’s emphasis on national unity and a shared vision can help create a more stable and predictable environment for economic development.

“By promoting ethical leadership and good governance, the school can contribute to a reduction in corruption, which is a major obstacle to economic growth,” said Cde Sibanda.

Minister of State for Bulawayo Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Judith Ncube, buttressed the message saying the training will shift the focus to national building instead of drug abuse and misdemeanours.

“We have many youths that are lost in a world of crime due to abuse of drugs and this programme is meant to stop that so that as citizens youths contribute to nation building. Many countries have similar programmes, and just look at how progressive they are,” she said.
Minister Ncube said there is a need to create a sense of national pride and belonging.
